Harris Musuem

Ambitious plans to make the Harris Museum, Art Gallery & Library a world-class cultural attraction and community hub for the 21st century is fully underway. The renovation project is part of the ‘Harris Your Place’ campaign, a £10 million project to restore and reimagine the Harris as a “21st century community, cultural and learning space.

The scheme is the result of collaboration between Harris’s curatorial, learning and development departments, Buttress Architects and RAA, with Michael Grubb Studio, Sysco and Kendrick Hobbs.

RAA has developed a unique design that blends the Harris’s library, museum and gallery spaces together, transforming the Harris into a new civic and cultural hub for Preston and wider Lancashire.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund approved funding for the project, and provided the final £4.5m needed for the scheme. The grant joined a further £3.6m already committed by Preston City Council; Lancashire County Council; the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal; Arts Council England and the Friends of the Harris.

The #HarrisYourPlace project will make the Grade 1-listed Harris the UK’s first blended museum, art gallery and library that will welcome an additional 100,000 visitors per year.
