Specialist lighting consultants Michael Grubb Studio provided LDA Design with strategic lighting design advice for the regeneration of Gorky Park, Moscow – Russia’s most important public park, and central to the cultural life of Moscow.
Drawing on Russia’s cultural heritage LDA Design developed an integrated environmental, activity and operational strategy and masterplan for the multi-million pound transformation of the Park. Seven districts were created, each reflecting a different historical period and combined, they create a high quality, distinct and diverse landscape structure. There are also nine activity hubs including waterfront leisure gardens creating a new river frontage; a new space at the heart of the park for cultural and recreational activities; and the Orangery, an 18th century garden building.
The project is an early symbol of the Government’s growing commitment to enhancing the quality of Moscow’s urban environment after years of neglect. LDA Designs’ vision was to create a world-class green space through an exterior lighting scheme to rival Hyde Park in London and Central Park in New York.
