Stories with Light: Join Us for the Official Book Launch
It has been five years in the making, but we are delighted to finally announce Stories with Light, a new book by Michael Grubb and Francis Pearce.

Stories with Light is an offbeat exploration of the world of light, lighting, and illumination. Part history, part science, and part storytelling, it offers tales of gaslight-powered bagpipes, ancient theories of eye-beams, and the surprising role of lighting in early influencer culture.
It is a celebration of curiosity, creativity, and the many ways light has shaped our lives — often in ways we rarely pause to consider.
Please join us for the official launch on Wednesday 21 May at Clerkenwell Design Week 2025, as part of the [d]arc thoughts talks programme.
Kindly hosted by [d]arc media and proudly sponsored by Applelec, this one-night-only event will take place in the atmospheric House of Detention, a former Victorian prison.
📅 Wednesday 21 May, 5:00–8:30pm
📍 12 Sans Walk, EC1R 0AS
The launch will feature a Q&A with the authors, followed by a drinks reception.
To attend, you must be registered as a Clerkenwell Design Week visitor, here. For catering purposes, we kindly ask that you also RSVP your attendance separately, here.
This is a moment we’ve been looking forward to — and we hope to see many familiar faces there to help us celebrate.
Please note that photography and video will be captured throughout the evening.
