Interactive & Special Projects

Interactive lighting design makes a leap from the conventional, with a focus on emerging technologies and new possibilities including multi-media technologies, creative applications and lighting control systems. Interactive design can be a dramatic theatrical display, a subdued moment or something entirely different.

Alongside the team’s extensive experience of creating an interactive lighting design, Michael Grubb Studio is also recognised for its original approach to Special Projects. This arises from our eclectic team of Lighting Designers mixed with passion, energy, expertise and the medium of ‘light’ as the central focus.

We have developed Lighting Schemes that can be controlled via smartphones, tablets or computers, designed by our talented in-house programming team. We work alongside other creatives in various sectors such as exhibitions and museums, retail and special projects to create different experiences, such as audio-visual displays. Our team can provide training and support to ensure the technology is accessible and adaptable for all those using it.

By exploring the medium of light, we create a story that inspires others, which helps to create a successful and well-received lighting project.

A lit environment that responds to people doesn’t have to happen at the touch of a button to be considered interactive. Our senses respond and interact with light in complex ways. The subtleties of new and emerging technologies accommodate this, allowing for more finely tuned experiences where interaction can trigger a variety of innovative ideas. This, coupled with Michael Grubb Studio’s other areas of expertise and knowledge, expand the possibilities and practical applications of interactive lighting design across all sectors.

Our devotion to unique lighting projects has enabled us to work on a wide range of unconventional initiatives from large scale light festivals to brand launches and charity initiatives.

Special projects draw particular attention to issues, such as sustainability within public spaces due to their often-temporary existence. We aim to design sustainable projects that consider and incorporate an energy efficient approach to lighting whilst minimising waste.
