InsideOut, UK

Inside-Out was a temporary installation by Michael Grubb Studio, designed to demonstrate the perceptions of space through the effects of light art.

The installation combined real lighting design effects and light painting at the Boilershop, a large warehouse space in Newcastle owned by Silverlink Property (used as a cultural and arts venue).

The space appears intimate at first, then changes in scale and atmosphere. The images presented are in a sequence, starting with the lighting of a desk, which is used for scale throughout.

Effects are created using combinations of interior, exterior, zoned and coloured lighting. The camerawork that captured the installation uses shutter speeds for effect but there was no Photoshopping of images.

The process was filmed to provide an insight into how the effects were created.
