Cosmetic company, Lush, approached Michael Grubb Studio with the brief to create an immersive lighting experience that would enhance the products on display, engage with customers and reinforce the Lush brand.
Lush has over 900 retail outlets and operates in 47 countries. The retail footprint includes the UK to Japan, North America, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Russia.
The company believes in making products from fresh organic fruit and vegetables with the finest essential oils and safe synthetics and purchasing ingredients from companies that do not test on animals.
We took on board the various issues and proceeded to dig deeper.
For example, we carried out two lighting workshops that were set up where zones of product ranges were installed and a range of lighting equipment to demonstrate what worked, and what didn’t. From different lamps highlighting different products, to different lighting techniques from a palette of ideas.
Michael Grubb Studio consulted with all areas of the business, taking on board the various issues before (quite literally) immersing ourselves in LUSH. This involved the Michael Grubb Studio team using products that helped generate thoughts and opinions on how light could best support the range of products and experiences on offer, including all members of the design team experience a day Spa treatment.
Working closely with the LUSH in-house design team we then helped organise lighting workshops, product testing, concept prototyping and lighting demonstrations. – all in advance of developing a unique lighting language, which cuts energy consumption, provides impact and has been subsequently adopted as a brand standard.
Michael Grubb Studio has since signed a worldwide framework agreement. This will see us providing lighting designs for all new and newly refurbished retail stores throughout the globe. Current projects include: Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Bristol, Madrid, Cardiff, Den Haag and Milan.
