Michael Grubb Studio worked collaboratively on a four-floor townhouse with a private residential client in Primrose Hill, London.
The high-end five bedroom townhouse consisted of various spaces, including a high spec kitchen, dinning, social areas, lounge meditation room and a home movie theatre in the basement.
The house had enormous personality with an array of colours, textures and architectural details.
We also had the pleasure of working with a hugely enthusiastic client who had strong ideas about how light and how it could be introduced – all of which meant we had lots to work with.
We discussed a variety of different ideas for the rooms, in particular with considerations of how they should look and feel. From this, it was about working with the client to develop a unique atmosphere that supported personal requirements and aspirations for each individual space.
The final lighting specification was broad, consisting of both decorative statements and discreetly hidden luminaires.
The client wanted all areas to be controlled via smart phones and tablets – which meant introducing wifi operated control system.
The final lighting scheme varies from space to space, with numerous scenes available depending on time of day and use.
Our client commented, “Michael Grubb Studio were an absolute pleasure to work with. From the masterplan developed over a number of meetings, though to specifying individual fittings and working with my contractors on site. They have been constantly available and hugely supportive throughout the entire project.”
Working with passionate private residential clients is something that we find deeply satisfying due to the nature of having a hands-on experience where we get to discuss, share knowledge and design something bespoke for the individual. It also allows us to be hands on and see the development of the project in just a few months.
We were also proud to have worked on this project with it featuring on property expert Sarah Beeny’s At Home magazine.
