11-21 Canal Reach – Kings Cross, London, UK

Michael Grubb Studio was appointed by Argent to provide commercial lighting designs for its high profile, multi-million pound, Kings Cross development, in London.

The building is set to house a wide range of amenities, including a primary medical centre and café spaces. There will also be a spacious reception area and 11 office floors, focused around two central atria.

T2 has been designed to be “upside-down.” This means plant and mechanical services have been allocated to back of house areas on the ground and first floors.

This innovative design frees usable space at the top of the building to allow for expansive communal roof and garden terraces.

Michael Grubb Studio collaborated with Bennetts Associates, LDA Design and BAM Design to design lighting schemes for the two receptions, lobby areas, communal spaces, circulation, building facades, roof terraces and the surrounding public realm.

The sheer scale of the commercial 10-storey 170,000 sq. ft office space presented various technical challenges and stringent requirements in relation to complying with light levels and other design standards.
