Part of SODIC’s 464-acre masterplan, VYE is a new community built entirely from the ground up. Its scale and long-term vision provided a rare opportunity to embed lighting into the fabric of the development from the outset, allowing it to become part of the identity of the neighbourhood as it evolves.

The project set out to create a more liveable and connected community, with outdoor spaces that encourage activity, social interaction and wellbeing beyond daylight hours.

Working closely with the wider design team, we developed a lighting masterplan that supports the character and function of the development at every scale, from primary routes and public spaces to neighbourhood destinations and quieter gathering spaces.

With a strong emphasis on the public realm, the lighting strategy supports a wide range of outdoor programmes, encouraging social interaction throughout the evening. Play areas, community gardens, markets and event spaces are designed to remain accessible, comfortable and welcoming after dark, enabling residents of all ages to enjoy and share the neighbourhood long after sunset.
