Whitfield Gardens, London

The rejuvenation of Whitfield Gardens in central London is now complete, marking further significant progress in Camden Council’s West End Project. The redesigned garden, by LDA Design, forms part of the biggest council-led public realm and transport scheme the borough has ever seen.

The lighting design by Michael Grubb Studio greatly contributes to the use and perception of the space after dark – with warm white light used to enhance both the soft and hard landscape features.

Areas like Whitfield Gardens are vital in bringing people into close contact with nature even in the busiest parts of the city. The gardens now provide an open and well-lit space for movement, events and socialising.

As well as the improved Whitfield Gardens, the West End Project will see new pocket parks along Tottenham Court Road, the transformation of Princes Circus in Holborn, and the creation of a totally new park at Alfred Place. Lighting design for all these new public realm projects is being provided by Michael Grubb Studio.
