Fairmont La Marina Rabat Salé Hotel & Residences, Morocco

Fairmont La Marina Rabat Salé Hotel & Residences is one of the leading luxury hotels in Rabat, Morocco. Located on the edge of the Bouregreg River, surrounded by stunning landscaped water gardens, the resort effortlessly combines the charm of old Morocco with modern luxury. The hotel is host to 247 guest rooms and suites, decadent restaurants, an incredible spa, an ultra-modern fitness centre, and a stunning rooftop bar with views of the Bouregreg River.

Landscape Architect, Chris Blandford Associates (CBA) appointed Michael Grubb Studio to create elements of the external lighting scheme for this luxury hospitality setting. The team were onboard from the early stages, working from the initial concept design through to technical detail.

The brief was to create a lighting design for external areas, from guest’s arrival through the landscape up to the plaza and courtyard, to social outdoor spaces within the hotel. Michael Grubb Studio worked with an understanding of the architectural language of the landscape, collaborating closely with the CBA team to develop a scheme that supported the various external spaces after dark.

The studio carried out lighting tests to determine how the lighting would be configured and controlled, breaking the site down into zones / character areas. We then developed various integration details for various features within the soft and hard landscape.

By complementing the overall architectural features, the lighting acts as a key tool to create the right atmosphere to enhance the guest experience in each unique setting. Warm and welcoming lighting sets the tone from the moment guests arrive at the hotel, adding ambience to create an environment of rest and relaxation.
