Bluewater Plaza,UK

Michael Grubb Studio is delighted to announce that we have appointed by Landsec (formerly Land Securities) to provide lighting design services for the Plaza at Bluewater Shopping Centre.

Shopping is an experience at this beautifully designed centre in north Kent. It opened in 1999 and continues to be one of the best retail and leisure destinations in Europe. Bluewater is still in a class of its own today. The complex is split into three parts, each with its own theme and atmosphere, offering distinct retail and leisure experiences.

Since Bluewater opened its doors on March 16, 1999, it has set the benchmark for the ultimate shopping and leisure experience and the rest as they say is retail history.

Rising out of a former chalk quarry among 50 metre-high cliffs – pretty impressive considering that’s as high as 10 double decker buses!

Located in Kent, traditionally known as the Garden of England, our overall site of 240 acres is surrounded by a 50 acre landscape of lakes, parkland and trees making it the perfect place for the whole family to enjoy. Bluewater has 300+ stores, over 50 bars, restaurants and cafes along with 13,000 free car parking spaces attracting millions of visitors per annum.

The Plaza is split over two floors and boasts Showcase Cinema as well as a wide selection of bars and restaurants.

Michael Grubb Studio will be working in conjunction with wayfinding and branding specialists The Velvet Principle.
